Spike Graphic Novel cover by StevenJamesMorris Spike Graphic Novel cover by StevenJamesMorris

My cover for an upcoming “Spike” graphic novel, written by James Marsters, and published by Dark Horse. There’s an interview with James on i09 here.

Wait... so James Marsters, "Spike", writes his own comics about "himself"? Lulz.

One word: Epic!
I'm surprised James Marsters is writing a Spike graphic novel. I wish him the best of luck.

Thanks! I think he may have also written for a Spike series when IDW had the license...not totally sure of that though.

Woohoo!!! Another one of your amazing cover designs! :) Love the dynamic situation you captured here! :) Spike better get indoors soon! :)

Thanks! Yeah, James wanted something really perilous looking, and I needed to work the damaged shoe in, so it meant doing something a little more extreme than I normally do.

Well, this sure seems perilous on three or four different counts! :) Reminds me of the final scene in the old batman episodes, keeps you wanting to know how he's going to get out of that predicament.

I don't have a very large comic collection although I really really appreciate the art and stories that go into them. (more into the Archaia stuff) :)

Might just get into the Spike series as I always point your art at comic book stores to my friends and its about time I actually invested in one .. or two... or three, etc.

Oh, that's so exciting!  Spike was always one of my favorite characters (my mother's, too, haha).  This is great, especially the detail of the sole of his shoe coming off, which is so realistic and not something we normally see in action pics like this.

Thanks! The shoe detail is related to the story and had to appear on the cover. My biggest concern was making it visible, without it taking away from Spike's face, but I think the lighting helps keep the focus.
